But I want an autograph, where can I get one?

There are three ways to get a genuine autograph:

  1. Purchase one from a UACC-authorized autograph dealer. These people deal exclusively in autographed celebrity and pop culture material, most of which is obtained in-person from their agents. An excellent source of dealers is the Autograph Collector magazine, published monthly in the United States. For more information, visit the UACC website (http://www.uacc.org)
  2. Purchase one from an online source such as EBay. Celebrity autograph auctions are common on the internet, and are a good source of obtaining genuine and fairly-priced merchandise. A word of caution, however, investigate your buyer! Fake signatures are frequent on the internet, so please buy from only reputable sources.
  3. Obtain an in-person autograph yourself. Celebrities will make public appearances, at premiers, conventions or other publicity events, and those present opportunities to have your photo signed right in front of you. This, for many people, is the most difficult option of all.

Yes. Charisma is well-aware of the existence of this site, and is known to visit the message boards to see what her fans are saying about her. She has also occasionally been involved with the site. She used this information in the negotiations.

Does Charisma have any tattoos?

Yes. Charisma has three tattoos.

The first is a stylized sun symbol. Charisma is a Leo because she was born in July, and the sun is the symbol of her astrological sign. It’s also the symbol for life. She spent years searching for the right tattoo, and found it on her then boyfriend’s (Damian) body. After seeing his tattoo, she realized that the sun was exactly what she was looking for.

The second is a rosary on her left wrist. On Angel, this caused a lot of conflict on the set because of the relationship her character had with a vampire, so it required constant make-up work to cover. For Charisma, however. it had nothing to do with the show. It instead had everything to do with where she was in her life at the time. The rosary is a constant reminder of the meaning of her life, what her purpose is, and what her most important relationships are. In essence, it is her personal I.D., one used to ground her when things get out of control.

The third was recently discovered from her recent Playboy pictorial. Located on the inside of her right wrist is a small "D2." This stands for the two men in her life - Damien, and Donovan.

Is this site official?

No. This site maintains some kind of quasi-official status. Although it has no official relationship with Charisma Carpenter, her management, or her publicist, they each are aware of its existence. Charisma has visited this site in the past and is known to read the posts on the message board. Likewise, she has commissioned the site to engage the fans on her behalf, such as polling them on which hairstyle suited her best. Charisma also has mentioned the site as her own in at least one interview (see E! Online interview, March 3, 2003).

How long has this site been up? How much time does it take to maintain? How popular is it?

The site first went online in late 1998 just after the first season of Buffy ended. At the time there were numerous informational websites available for all of the major characters except Charisma, and we felt it was necessary that she too have a high quality site people could look to in order to get accurate information about Charisma in order to distinguish her from her character at the time, Cordelia Chase. What started out as a small site taking up only several hundred kilobytes and transferring less than 1 gig per month has blossomed into a full-fledged celebrity hub, named by some publications as being among the best celebrity sites on the web. Today, Charisma-Carpenter.com takes up several gigabytes of storage, and serves approximately 100,000 visitors per month from all over the world. These eager visitors consumer approximately 100 gigabytes of bandwidth every single month.

I want to use some of your pictures on my site, can I?

Of course. Does that mean you can copy the entire gallery onto your site? Well no, that's just silly. But you're free to use a couple photos to your liking on your website. We just ask that, in exchange, you provide either a text link or banner link back to this site, where the pictures originated. Banners can be found at http://www.charisma-carpenter.com/banners/ with accompanying code.

For text links, please do something like this:

The following pictures are courtesy of <a href="http://www.charisma-carpenter.com">www.charisma-carpenter.com<a>

Please note, however, that you are free to download as much and as many things as you like for use on your home computer!

Can I just link to your videos and articles and stuff from my site?

No. We pay for a significant amount of bandwidth that we generate solely from the site alone. To have bandwidth being siphoned off from other sites linking to photos and stuff would be detrimental to this site and our server. We ask that you please do not use outside linking to any of our internal files (except banners, of course). Everyone here thanks you for your refrain. We also institute hotlinking prevention methods to stop outside linking in order to save the bandwidth for those visiting the site.

What's with all the advertising?

Let's face it, running a popular site costs money. Buying stuff for contests costs money. Buying magazines for articles and pictures costs money. Paying hosting fees costs money. This site pushes 100 gigabytes of bandwidth every month, and those associated costs would put this site out of business very quickly if supplemental advertising revenue didn't cover those costs.

Our advertising has generously been provided by Gorilla Nation. We are lucky to have been hand picked by their recruitment crew as an affiliate. We ask you to not only support us, but also them, by clicking on banners that interest you.

Where does all the information come from?

Information comes in the form of magazines, telvision reports, radio spots and the information gathering skills of fans all over the world.

Where are the Playboy pictures?

We cannot post any of the photographs from the Playboy edition. Playboy Enterprises polices its intellectual property with extreme diligence, and is not afraid to sue any third party reproducing and distributing it. For the sake of avoiding liability, we choose not to post them.

I sent you something in mail and it's not up on the site, why not?

This could happen for several reasons:

  1. We haven't received it yet. Check back later.
  2. It's already up on the site.
  3. It's unusable.
  4. We're just busy at the moment.
Unusable? What does that mean? Well, we pride ourselves on being the highest quality Charisma site on the web, and part of that responsibility is offering the highest quality media to the public. Whenever something gets sent to the site, it is critically evaluated as to how and where it would fit in to the site. Sometimes things just don't aspire to the level we're looking for.

For instance, you will notice a definite lack of screen savers on the site. Why? Because all the ones sent to us are simply pictures that blink from one to the next. What about wallpapers? Odds are, if you send in a collage of photos it's not going to make it onto the site. Does that make you less of a fan because your submission was rejected? No. Does it make you a terrible artist? No. It just means that's not what we're looking for at the time. So please don't take it personally.

What do we look for then in submissions? Attention to detail, a creative flair and nice composition. If it's original and exciting, you're pretty much in.

Why is there no Angel section to this site?

This site is specifically designed for Charisma Carpenter, the actress. While that means you will see photos and articles with show references, this site does not specifically found itself on the show. For Angel specific sites, check out the internet. An excellent example is www.cityofangel.com.

This website hasn't been updated for X amount of days, why not?

This site strives to have continuous and regular updates. But sometimes there just isn't anything new to put up. You will often see these referred to as "dry spells." It doesn't mean the site isn't being maintained, but rather that new material isn't available. Be patient, and wait for new material to be generated and posted.
